ATHENS
PROGRAM
THE CITY OF ATHENS
Athens is the largest city in Greece, a classical
city full of Classical, Hellenistic, Byzantine,
and Modern monuments. Athens is the Center of all
the Centers in the world. Athens is the city of
the Olympic Idea, the birth place of Democracy,
the city of Artists with the Parthenon in Acropolis
of all and for all.
Athens is beautiful and always smiling. You can
find Athens smile everywhere: in an ancient theater,
in a modern exhibition hall, at a sports even, down
by the sea, at concert, around the table in a small
taverna, in a little alleyway, behind the mast of
a sailboat or next to the column of an old temple.
UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS
The National and Capodistrian University of Athens
(www.uoa.gr) was founded on May 3rd, 1837 and was
housed originally on the north east side of Acropolis.
It was the first university not only in the newly
established Greek state but also in the Balkans
and the Eastern Mediterranean in general.
HOUSING
Students in Athens will be housed at rental apartments.
Arrangements have been made for one meal daily
(supper), during the school days for the
entire semester.

PROGRAM
THE ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY
The Aristotle University (http://www.auth.gr)
is named after Aristotle, the great Greek philosopher
and teacher of Alexander the Great. It is the largest
University in the Balkans with 60,000 students,
which help define the cities rich intellectual and
social life.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MACEDONIA
The University of Macedonia (http://www.uom.gr)
started in 1957 as a graduate industrial school.
From 1990 has also eight fields of undergraduate
studies. Its main goal is the University of Macedonia
students, dynamically and effectively to participate
in the new challenges of an international and ever
more globalized market.

RHODES PROGRAM
THE UNIVERSITY OF AEGEAN
The University of Aegean (UA) (www.aegean.gr)
has been established on five islands of the Aegean
Archipelago. It is a rapidly growing University,
which help define the Islands rich intellectual
and social life. Particular emphasis is placed on
research with diverse research programs established
on environmental science, education, business admini-stration
and computer science, along with strong academic
collaborations with European and Black Sea Universities.
Most UA's departments offer graduate level courses
that lead to M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR MARINE RESEARCH
National Center for Marine Research (NCMR) has
completed sixty years of Marine Research.
NCMR (www.ncmr.gr)
has five institutions which carry out research into
specific thematic areas of: Oceanography, Aquaculture,
Marine Biological Resources, Inland Waters, Marine
Biology and Genetics.

GENERAL INFORMATION
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Various cultural activities such as visits to museums,
Byzantine or other monuments, excursions to historical
and archaeological sites and tours will be arranged
depending on students' interest and courses offered.

ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC INTEREST
Students should have a grade point average of 2.5
and above. In addition, students interested in broad
aspects of environment, coastal management, law,
and politics, aqua culture, marine biology, oceanography,
humanities, Mediterranean Studies and language will
find this program attractive and useful. This program
also expands the educational options and opportunities
for students pursuing programs and courses related
to Hellenic Studies (Classical, Byzantine, Modern).

IS FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
REQUIRED?
All courses are offered in English, with the study
of Modern Greek Language as a complement. Some background
in the Greek language is desirable but not required.

HOW DO CREDITS TRANSFER?
This is an official overseas program of the University
of Connecticut (UCONN). All credits earned overseas
in an official UCONN program are recorded as direct
UCONN credits. All programs are full time (minimum
of 12 credits) and courses must be approved prior
to departure. Students should also check with their
advisors to find out how the credits earned overseas
can be applied to the degree program.
PAIDEIA study abroad programs are affiliated with
a number of Universities across the country.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
The total cost of the program for the 2008 - 2009
academic years is $6,500 per semester, which covers
tuition, and course fees, room and board and various
student activities.
It does not include personal expenses and transportation
to and from Thessaloniki, or Rhodes. Also, does
not include application and registration fees to
University of Connecticut or other PAIDEIA affiliated
Universities.
Please note that fees are subject to change. Any
considerable decrease in the value of the dollar
will affect the total cost of the program.
Paideia reserves the right to cancel a course due
to low enrollment, changing political or economic
factors, unusual circumstances, or any other event
which dramatically impact the nature of the course
or the ability of the faculty to conduct such course.
Scholarships are available to qualified students.
Application forms are mailed with acceptance letters.
